Description
Black Horse Cottage is an inn that has been converted into a house, dating from 1751 as indicated by a datestone. The building is constructed of colourwashed coursed limestone rubble with some brick dressings and features a plain-tile roof with a brick chimney stack. It has a double-depth plan and stands two storeys high. The front has three windows and brick quoins at the corners, with a central door that is sheltered by a 19th-century tiled canopy. Flanking the door are three-light casement windows, while the first floor has casements with two, one, and two lights. All joinery and lintels are from the 20th century. The roof is double-span, and there are chimney projections at the left end of the front range. The datestone inscribed "F.G./1751" is located on the left end wall, where it was previously positioned above the doorway. The interior has not been inspected. The building is included for its group value.
