Description
Priory Garden Cottage is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th century. It is timber-framed, featuring painted brick and rendered infill on a limestone rubble base, and part coursed limestone rubble with ashlar dressings. The cottage has a thatched roof that is half-hipped at the west end, with a brick stack located at the east end of the ridge.
The structure consists of two framed bays aligned east to west, with an external chimney at the west end and a tall detached brick stack. It is a single storey with an attic that includes dormers. The framing primarily consists of three panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with a truncated collar and tie-beam truss featuring three struts at the west end.
On the south front elevation, there is a three-light chamfered stone mullioned window with a hoodmould that has returns, along with 19th-century casements in the eastern bay. The west bay contains a two-light 19th-century casement. Above each bay, there are eyebrow dormers with two-light casements. The main entrance, located in the east bay, features a chamfered Tudor-arched head, a hoodmould with returns, and a ledged and battened door.
In the gable end, there are attic lights, including two chamfered rectangular lights at the east end that have been blocked. At the rear of the east bay, there is a mullioned window that matches the details of the front elevation. A lean-to addition is attached to the west end, which has a ledged and battened door at its south end. The interior of the cottage is said to have been little altered.
