Description
This is a mid-18th century house, with alterations and additions made in the late 19th century and the mid-20th century. It is constructed of coursed dressed limestone rubble, with an ashlar facade and a slate roof. The roof features gable-end ashlar parapets topped with gabled finials. There are two tall brick chimneys at the rear.
The house is two storeys and has an attic, with a decorative band running across the front elevation at first floor level. The front has three bays, marked by rusticated quoins at the ends. The windows have raised stone architraves, and the outer bays on both floors have 12-pane sashes. A central, round-headed stair window disrupts the first floor band. This window has a moulded keyblock and imposts, and contains a 3-pane sash with traceried glazing bars set within an arched head. A pedimented entablature with flanking pilasters shelters a 20th-century multi-paned front door, positioned directly below the stair window. Attic windows are located in the gable ends.
A two-storey rear range extends from the main building, along with a 20th-century hipped-roofed porch wing. This wing adjoins the left side and has a 4-pane sash facing the front and the main entrance door to the side. A long, roughly five-bay range, single storey and attic, adjoins the right side of the rear wing. This section has gabled half-dormers with large stone mullioned and transomed windows.
