Description

Orchard Cottage and West Wynde are a pair of cottages dating from the 17th century, with alterations and additions made in the mid-19th century and late 20th century. They are constructed of coursed limestone rubble and feature a thatched roof that is half-hipped at the west end. The roof has a brick stack located at the rear centre and right end of the ridge, along with a large 20th-century rubble stack at the left end. The cottages are arranged in four bays running east to west and are single storey with an attic that includes dormers.

On the south front elevation, Orchard Cottage has retained its 19th-century casement windows, featuring a 2-light window and a 3-light window on the ground floor, as well as two eyebrow dormers with 2-light windows. The main entrance, located in the east end bay, has a 19th-century ledged and battened door. West Wynde has all 20th-century 3-light casement windows, including a ground floor window and an eyebrow dormer. There is a 20th-century single-storey wing projecting from the west end bay, which has a window in its south gable end. A flat-roofed porch connects this wing to the original part of the building and features a 20th-century door. An attic light is present at the west end. Inside, Orchard Cottage retains a large fireplace.
