Description
Kemerton Methodist Chapel is a chapel built around 1819 for William Mumford. It is constructed of coursed dressed limestone rubble with ashlar dressings and features a hipped plain tiled roof with a brick stack on the north side. The chapel has a rectangular two-bay plan. The windows have square heads and are mullioned with round-headed lights. At the west end, there is a 2-light window above a blocked opening with a stone lintel. The south elevation includes two 3-light windows, and between them is a diamond-shaped datestone inscribed "WM/1819". Adjoining the east elevation is a brick schoolroom, which has a dentilled eaves cornice. The south elevation of the schoolroom features two 24-pane sash windows with wedge lintels, a 6-panelled door with a flat canopy supported by shaped brackets, and a 12-pane transom above. Inside, a panelled dado remains. The Mumford family, who were the largest landowners in Kemerton after the rector and the lord of the manor, played a significant role in the local Methodist community.
