Description

This barn, located about 30 yards south-west of Uphampton House, is likely from the 17th century. It is timber-framed and weatherboarded, standing on a sandstone rubble plinth, with a plain tiled roof. The structure consists of four framed bays. The second bay from the east gable end features a wagon bay with opposed, square-headed cart entries, while the fourth bay is open and lacks wall framing. The framing includes three square panels from the sill to the wall-plate, collar-and-tie-beam trusses with queen struts at the gable ends and east of the open bay, and intermediate tie-beam trusses with raking struts on either side of the wagon bay. There is also a single row of trenched purlins.
