Description
The Hollies is a house that dates from the 17th century and was extended in the early 19th century. It features a combination of timber framing with painted brick and rendered infill, set on a sandstone rubble plinth, and has brick sections with plain tiled roofs. The timber-framed part consists of three framed bays and is a single storey with an attic that includes dormers. The framing has three square panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with short straight braces in the upper corners and a collar-and-tie-beam truss in the left gable end, which has queen struts and a V-strut in the apex. The front elevation displays paired 2-light casements and a 20th-century 3-light casement at ground floor level, along with two gabled dormers featuring 2-light casements. There is also an attic light in the left gable end. The brick addition, which adjoins the right gable end, is two storeys high with two bays, including one ground floor and two first floor glazing bar sashes with cambered heads. The main entrance is located in the left bay and features a lean-to timber-framed porch on a sandstone base, along with a 4-panelled door. The interior has not been inspected.
