Description

Maytree Cottage is a cottage dating from the early 17th century, with alterations and additions made in the mid-19th century. The construction is timber-framed, with rendered and painted brick infill, brick replacement walling and refacing, and a sandstone rubble plinth. The roof is covered in plain tiles, and there are external sandstone chimneys with brick stacks at both gable ends; the right side chimney has a star-shaped shaft. The cottage has two framed bays, a single storey with an attic featuring a gabled dormer, and a dentilled eaves cornice at the rear. The timber framing consists of three panels from sill to wall-plate, with short straight braces in the upper corners, although no trusses are visible. The front elevation features two 3-light and one 2-light casement windows at ground floor level, with plank weatherings, and a gabled dormer with a 2-light casement. An entrance is located in the left bay, with a gabled glazed timber porch on a brick base and a ledged and battened door. The right gable end has been extended in brick to enclose the external stack. The interior was not inspected. The cottage is included on the list for group value.
