Description

Baytree Cottage and Corner Cottage are a pair of cottages dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th and mid-20th centuries. The cottages are constructed with timber framing, painted brick and rendered infill, and feature brick replacement walling, a high sandstone plinth, and an asbestos roof. The east gable end has a rebuilt external brick stack, and there is also a brick stack at the front of the ridge at the center.

The cottages consist of four framed bays and are single storey with an attic that includes dormers. The framing includes three square panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with short straight braces in the upper corners and collar-and-tie-beam trusses with queen struts at the gable ends.

The front elevation faces south, where the left side cottage has two 3-light casements, a gabled dormer with a 2-light casement, a 20th-century lean-to glazed porch, and a ledged and battened door. The right side cottage features a 3-light and a 2-light casement, a gabled dormer with a 2-light casement, and a 20th-century gabled timber-framed porch and door. There are attic lights in the gable ends.

Inside, the roof has a single row of trenched purlins and intermediate collar-and-tie-beam trusses with queen struts, and the original winder staircases have been retained.
