Description

A row of cottages dating from the 17th and 18th centuries, or possibly earlier, with later alterations and additions. The cottages are timber-framed with painted brick or rough rendered walls. The roofs are red plain tiles, except for Baytrees, which has grey slate. Baytree Cottage and Baytrees, the cottages on the left and right, are lower in height. Baytree Cottage has a catslide dormer with a 2-light casement window and a pair of segmental-headed windows, with a 20th-century door to the right. Baytrees has weatherboarding and a vertically sliding sash window, with a vertically boarded door to the right. The central cottages, Baytree House and Bay Cottage, have two red brick chimney stacks, a dentilled eaves cornice, a gambrel roof, two segmental-headed dormers, and four hipped dormers. They feature a six-window range of vertically sliding sash windows, with two 3-light bays with fascias above on the right side. Bay Cottage has a 4-panelled door with a pediment, and Baytree House has a 20th-century part-glazed door with a round headed doorway. The group is included on the list for group value.
