Description

The Bradwell-on-Sea War Memorial is located in the churchyard of the Church of St Thomas, which is listed at Grade II*. The memorial features a simple granite obelisk that stands on the cornice of a plinth, which itself is set on a three-stepped base. The plinth is inscribed with dedicatory messages honoring the men of the parish who served during the First World War. On the front (north) face, the inscription reads "MEN OF THIS PARISH / WHO SERVED IN THE GREAT WAR." The east and west faces list the names of the 112 individuals who served. Originally, the names of those who died were highlighted in red, while the other names were painted black.
