Description
This barn, located about 40 yards northeast of Uphampton Farmhouse, dates back to the early 17th century and has undergone alterations in the mid-19th century and late 20th century. It is constructed with a timber frame and weatherboarding set on a sandstone rubble base, topped with a corrugated metal roof. The barn features five framed bays arranged roughly in a north-south direction, with wagon bays that have opposing cart entries in the second and fourth bays from the north end. One of these entries is blocked on the west side, and a metal door has been inserted. Additionally, there is another metal door at the north end.
The framing consists of three rows of panels extending from the sill to the wall-plate. The roof structure has seen some repairs and includes a collar and tie-beam truss with four struts beneath the collar, along with a V-strut above the collar at the north end. There is also a similar intermediate tie-beam truss with three struts to the collar, as well as three other intermediate tie-beam trusses featuring raking struts. The barn has two tiers of trenched purlins, and all the rafters have been renewed. This barn is included for its group value.
