Description

This barn, located about 10 yards north of Upper House Farmhouse, dates from around 1700 and was altered in the late 20th century. It is constructed with a timber frame and weatherboarding on a rubble base, topped with a stone-tiled roof laid in diminishing courses. The barn features six framed bays that are aligned north to south, including a wagon bay and opposing cart entries with double doors located in the second bay from the south end. An adjoining barn of roughly similar size is attached to the east side of the second bay from the north end. Inside, the wall framing consists of three panels from the sill to the wall plate. The roof structure includes collar and tie-beam end trusses with struts, similar intermediate trusses with raking struts, and two tiers of trenched purlins.
