Description
The Tram Inn is a public house located on High Street in Eardisley, originally built in the 17th century with later alterations in the 18th century, mid- to late 19th century, and mid-20th century. The structure is timber-framed with painted brick infill set on a rubble base, featuring painted brick and rubble additions, and a machine-tiled roof with a rebuilt rubble stack at the front ridge and a brick stack at the rear.
The building consists of three framed bays aligned north to south, with the southernmost bay likely added in the 18th century. It stands two storeys tall. The framing includes three and four panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with a collar and tie-beam truss supported by three struts and a V-strut above the collar at the south end.
On the east front elevation, there is a rectangular light, two 12-pane single-hung sash windows, and a 20th-century rubble lean-to bay window with a 4-light casement on the ground floor, along with three 2-light casements and a 3-light casement on the first floor. The central entrance features a 20th-century gabled timber-framed porch and a 6-panelled door.
At the north end, there is a 19th-century cross-wing, also two storeys high, with a cogged eaves cornice. The east gable end includes a multi-paned sash window on the ground floor, a 16-pane sash on the first floor, and a half-glazed 19th-century door. Additionally, there is a lean-to outshut at the south end with a 12-pane single-hung sash in its east elevation. The building is prominently situated at the north end of the village and is adjacent to Cartref on Whitney Road. It is included for its group value.
