Description

Number 1 (April Cottage), 2, and 3 are a row of three houses dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th century and late 20th century. They are timber-framed with rendered infill on a rubble base and have been refaced with painted rubble. The houses feature a slate roof with a rubble ridge stack and two diagonal rubble shafts. The structure consists of five bays aligned east to west, including a chimney bay (the second from the east end) which likely serves as the lobby entrance to Number 1.

The buildings are two storeys high, with the timber framing visible at the east end and rear. The framing includes two and three rows of panels from the sill to the original wall plate, with short straight upper corner braces, plus one additional row of panels added when the roof was heightened, also with similar corner braces.

On the south front elevation, Number 1 has a ground floor replacement three-light casement window with a concrete lintel. Numbers 2 and 3 have three-light ground floor casements with cambered heads. There are five first floor two-light casements with cambered heads. Number 1 features a 20th-century lean-to brick porch with a two-light casement on the south side and the main entrance located at the right angle. Numbers 2 and 3 have gabled canopies supported by straight brackets and ledged and battened doors.
