Description
The cart shed and granary located immediately west of Lower Nicholson Farmhouse dates from the mid-19th century. It is constructed of coursed stone rubble and timber-frame with red brick nogging, topped with a Welsh slate roof featuring gabled ends. The building has a rectangular plan and consists of a three-bay open-fronted cart shed with a granary above. Access to the granary is provided by an external stair on the left (east) side, leading to a doorway on the first floor.
The structure is two storeys high, with three open bays on the ground floor supported by brick piers and bressumers. The first floor is timber-framed with red brick nogging and includes a central window. There is a stone staircase on the left side that leads to the granary door on the east gable end, while the rear has a higher ground level. A high-level doorway is present on the west gable end. Inside, the exposed floor beams and joists are visible, although the interior of the granary has not been inspected.
