Description

The granary at Evenwood Farm dates from the mid-19th century. It is situated on the south-west side of an unclassified road between Kenley and Acton Burnell, forming part of a farmstead with a barn (listed Grade II), a cattle shed, a covered yard, a fold yard, a farmhouse, and stables with ancillary facilities (also Grade II).

The granary, which incorporates a cartshed below, stands at the south-west corner of the southern barn. Facing west, it is three bays wide and two storeys high with a pitched roof. The ground floor features three open bays with brick piers and timber lintels. The first floor has two multiple-light metal-framed windows, each set within a segmental brick arch. An external flight of brick steps leads to the first-floor entrance, which is a ledge and plank door set within a pegged timber frame and a segmental arched opening. The east elevation and north gable are blank.

The ground floor is open on the west side. Internally, the ground floor supports two pairs of transverse beams and closely-spaced axial joists, with two posts resting on stone pads beneath the central point of the beams. The first-floor granary floor is boarded, with timber bins on one side. The roof features a bolted king post truss and a single tier of purlins.
