Description
The Old Post Office is a cottage that was formerly a post office, likely dating back to the 16th century. It was remodeled in the late 18th century and has undergone extensive additions and alterations, particularly in the late 20th century. The building features uncoursed gritstone rubble that largely replaces its original timber-framed structure, of which an open cruck truss remains. The roof is covered with machine tiles.
The cottage has a two-cell plan with a late 20th-century extension to the right that matches the original style. It is one storey and has an attic. On the original part, there are two 20th-century casement windows with segmental heads on either side, and a 20th-century gabled eaves dormer positioned between them. The entrance is through a 20th-century door in the extension to the right, flanked by contemporary casements. A red brick ridge stack is located at the former right gable end.
The interior has not been inspected but is noted to have a timber-framed cross wall at the center of the original part and a chamfered spine beam with heavy joists in the right-hand ground-floor room. The apex of the cruck truss has been destroyed.
