Description
Bowling Green Cottage is a 17th-century cottage with later additions and alterations. It is timber-framed with plaster infill, and has a thatched roof. The building originally comprised two main sections. The framing consists of square panels, three from the cill to the wall-plate, with long straight tension braces and v-struts from the collar to the left gable end. The right gable end and back wall are encased in uncoursed limestone and gritstone rubble. In the late 20th century, casement windows were installed to the left and right of a blocked doorway, which is situated to the right of the centre. An eyebrow eaves dormer is positioned to the right. An integral end stack with a red brick shaft is on the right side. The current entrance is at the rear, through a boarded door with a mid-19th century segmental head. A 19th-century rubblestone lean-to extends to the left, featuring a stable door. The interior, which was not inspected, is noted to have chamfered ceiling beams and heavy joists in the ground-floor rooms, along with stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops.
