Description
Ford Abbey is a farmhouse that dates back to the early 16th century, with expansions made in the 17th century and further alterations in the 18th century and mid-19th century, along with additional changes in the 20th century. The building features square-panelled timber-framing, painted brick and wattle-and-daub infill, a sandstone rubble plinth with some refacing, and rubble stacks topped with brick shafts. It has Welsh slate roofs and is designed in an L-shape with entrances on the north-west and south-east fronts, including a through-passage and gable-end and axial stacks. There are further additions on the north-west and south-east sides that create a small enclosed courtyard. The farmhouse stands two storeys tall, with part of it being single storey and an attic.
On the south-east front, there are three windows on the first floor: one 3-light, one 2-light, and another 3-light casement window. To the left, there is a 2-light casement window, and to the right, there is a 3-light window and a similar 2-light window, all positioned beside a gabled porch with a part-glazed inner door. The north-west front, which is enclosed in the courtyard, features a small two-storey porch with a shaped doorhead and a small 2-light casement window in the gable. Inside, the farmhouse retains chamfered and moulded ceiling beams and triangular-headed doorways in the rear wing.
