Description
This barn, located about 30 yards south-east of Pumphouse Farmhouse, is likely from the 18th century and was altered in the mid-19th century. It features a timber frame, is weatherboarded on a brick plinth, and has a plain tiled roof. The barn consists of four framed bays that are roughly aligned east to west. The second bay from the east gable end originally had a wagon bay with double doors that have since been removed. On the south elevation, there is a small two-light window and a door in each outer bay; the left door includes a transom light with three glazing bars.
Inside, the barn has long rectangular panels extending from the sill to the wall-plate, with long straight braces in the lower corners. The roof structure includes two tiers of purlins, end collar and tie-beam trusses with two long struts to the collar, raking struts to the lower purlin, and a king-post above the collar. The intermediate truncated collar and tie-beam trusses have two large struts with raking struts near the base of each to the lower purlins. This barn is included for its group value.
