Description
Granary House, originally known as the Granary at Becks Farm, is a granary that has been converted into a house. It dates from the late 18th century and was restored and converted in the late 20th century. The building is constructed of red brick and features a broad-span hipped plain tiled roof with brick ridge stacks. It has two levels and a dentilled eaves cornice. The structure consists of five bays; the east side elevation was originally open on the ground floor, with the upper part of the wall resting on timber lintels supported by four cylindrical brick piers. The openings have been glazed, and double doors have been inserted in the fourth and fifth bays. Above these openings are three gabled dormers with 2-light casements, a skylight, and the former gabled loft door above the second bay, which has also been glazed. Inside, the roof is notable for having canted aisle posts supported on the floor joists of the granary. This granary is unusually large and includes a cart shed beneath; its scale, proportions, and overall character have been preserved during the conversion. The building holds group value with Becks Farmhouse and the barn.
