Description
This is a barn located about 4 yards northeast of The Cottage at Bevere Manor. It dates from the late 17th century and has undergone alterations and additions in the late 19th century. The barn features a part timber-framed structure set on a brick plinth, with weatherboarding and corrugated iron cladding, and brick gable ends. It has a plain tiled roof with crow-stepped gable end parapets and a wrought iron weather vane at the northeast end. The barn consists of five bays, with a central wagon bay that has opposed cart entries. A brick midstrey has been added to the southwest elevation, flanked by catslide outshuts on either side. The framing includes long rectangular panels from the sill to the wall-plate and long straight braces in the lower corners. The gable ends have blind pitching eyes at the apex and ventilation slits. The northwest gable end features a door and two first-floor windows, all with cambered heads. The outshuts on the southwest elevation have two windows flanking two ledged and battened doors on each side, all also with cambered heads. Inside, the roof has trenched double purlins and four intermediate tie-beam trusses with raking struts and collars. The two bays on the northeast side are floored.
