Description
This barn, located immediately north-north-east of the cottage at Combe House Farm, dates from the early 18th century. It features a weatherboarded timber frame set on a brick plinth, topped with a gable-ended roof covered in corrugated sheet steel. The barn has a three-bay layout with a central midstrey and an aisle on the north side. An additional bay with a loft was added to the eastern end later in the 18th century.
On the exterior, there is a hipped midstrey positioned to the right of the center on the north side, with the main roof extending down as catslides over the aisles on both sides. Inside, the barn has a three-bay frame supported by jowled posts, with straight braces connecting to the tie-beams and arcade-plate. The roof structure includes queen-strut trusses with collars, diminished principals, and clasped purlins. The common-rafter couples are intact, although the wind-braces are missing. The wall framing consists of posts, straight tension-braces, and long studs, but lacks rails. The added eastern bay includes a loft.
