Description

The granary, cart shed, and stables located about 30 yards west of Rectory Farmhouse date back to the 17th century and have undergone some alterations in the mid-20th century. The structure is timber-framed with brick infill, brick replacement walling, and a plain tiled roof. It consists of two plus two framed bays arranged in an east/west direction, with two levels. The two westernmost bays serve as stables with a hayloft above, while the cart shed and granary occupy the two easternmost bays.

The framing of the two westernmost bays features three panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with long straight braces in the lower corners. The two easternmost bays have two rows of panelling at the upper level, with short straight braces in the lower corners of the gable end. Throughout the structure, there are collar and tie-beam trusses; the east gable has two vertical struts, small raking struts in the lower corners, and a V-strut at the apex. The west gable truss has been rebuilt in a similar style but includes three longer vertical struts.

On the main south elevation, there is a stable door and a wood-mullioned window, along with a loft door above in the stable end. The cart shed features two openings separated by a bullnosed brick pier; the left opening is now bricked in with a stable door inserted, while the right side has double doors. At the west gable end, sandstone and brick external steps lead up to ledged and battened doors, with a 2-light opening above. The interior of the granary is plastered.
