Description

CROWLE CP LOWER CROWLE SO 95 NW 6/28 Rectory Farmhouse GV II Farmhouse. Mid-C19 remodelling of C17 structure. Painted brick rendered at west gable end, plain tiled roof. Probable former hall-and-cross-wing type plan retained when remodelled and presently having a three-bay main range aligned east/west with cross-wing at east gable end and C19 parallel rear range; large external chimney with offsets and detached stack (tied into gable) at west gable end of original range, also large chimney to rear of centre bay now enclosed by rear range; additional external chimney with paired diagonal shafts to east side elevation of cross-wing. Two storeys with dentilled eaves cornice at rear. South front elevation: 3:1 bays; all windows are 3-light C19 casements, the ground-floor and cross-wing windows having cambered heads; entrance adjacent to cross-wing in third bay has an open pediment, moulded architrave and 6-panelled door, the two central panels of which are raised and fielded and the upper two glazed. Interior not inspected, but likely to contain evidence of C17 structure.
