Description

Rectory Farmhouse is a farmhouse that underwent mid-19th century remodelling of a 17th century structure. The building features painted brick rendered at the west gable end and has a plain tiled roof. It likely retains the former hall-and-cross-wing type plan, currently consisting of a three-bay main range aligned east to west, with a cross-wing at the east gable end and a 19th century parallel rear range. There is a large external chimney with offsets and a detached stack tied into the gable at the west gable end of the original range, as well as a large chimney at the rear of the centre bay now enclosed by the rear range. An additional external chimney with paired diagonal shafts is located on the east side elevation of the cross-wing. The farmhouse is two storeys high and features a dentilled eaves cornice at the rear. The south front elevation has a 3:1 bay arrangement, with all windows being 3-light 19th century casements. The ground-floor and cross-wing windows have cambered heads. The entrance, located adjacent to the cross-wing in the third bay, features an open pediment, a moulded architrave, and a six-panelled door, with the two central panels raised and fielded and the upper two glazed. The interior has not been inspected, but it is likely to contain evidence of the 17th century structure.
