Description
The Old Cart Shed is a stable built in the 17th century, with alterations made in the mid-20th century. It features a timber frame with brick infill and replacement walling, topped by a plain tiled roof. The structure consists of three framed bays oriented east to west and has two levels. The framing is irregular, primarily composed of five panels from the sill to the wallplate, with a collar and tie-beam truss that includes three struts below the collar and a V-strut in the apex, which is exposed in the east gable end.
The south elevation, which faces the farmyard, has four stable doors and two windows on the ground floor, one of which is a two-light casement. The upper level includes a two-light casement and two loft doors.
The interior, including the roof and upper level, is not accessible. It is likely that the building was originally constructed as a barn, as indicated by the wall-framing. The Old Cart Shed is connected to a large barn in the farmstead by a late 19th-century brick building at its west gable end.
