Description

Ridgend Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse that has undergone alterations and additions in the mid-19th century. The building features a timber frame with painted brick infill, as well as brick replacement walling and refacing. It has hipped tiled roofs, a brick ridge stack, and additional brick stacks on the side elevations. The layout follows a hall and cross-wing type plan, with a chimney inserted in the former cross-passage. The long hall range runs on a west/east axis, with the cross-wing located at the west gable end. The hall range includes a lobby entry plan and has two storeys and an attic, characterized by a dentilled eaves cornice.

The exposed framing in the cross-wing consists of four square panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with long straight lower corner braces. The front elevation facing south features irregular fenestration, with the hall range having three large mid-19th century casements on the ground floor and two on the first floor. The ground floor windows have cambered heads, and the left window is blocked. There is a door with a cambered head located beneath the ridge stack, which has six raised and fielded panels and a flat canopy above supported by carved brackets. The gable end of the cross-wing displays plank weatherings between the storeys, a ground floor cross casement, and a first floor 16-pane sash. The interior has not been inspected, and there is a single storey extension on the right side elevation that may have been a former bake house.
