Description

Woodhall Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse that was altered and extended in the mid-19th century. It is partly timber-framed with painted brick infill, with some brick replacement walling and refacing, and has tiled roofs with bargeboards. The building has a central brick ridge stack with cogged cap courses, and an additional ridge end stack to the rear north wing, set within an H-shaped plan. Originally a 3-bay hall house, it includes inserted chimney and 4-bay cross-wings. The house is two storeys high and has a dentilled eaves cornice. The rear of the cross-wings reveals timber framing: the south cross-wing has four square panels from sill to wall-plate, and the north cross-wing has three large square panels from sill to wall-plate, with short braces in the upper corners and queen strut trusses in the gable ends. The front elevation incorporates 16-pane sashes with cambered heads. The main part of the house has one ground-floor and two first-floor windows, a blocked central doorway with a cambered head, and a 20th-century single-storey, flat-roofed, part-glazed extension in the angle with the north cross-wing. Each cross-wing has a ground-floor and first-floor window in its gable end. The interior has not been inspected. An outshut is located to the rear of the central range, and a single-storey extension adjoins the rear gable end of the north cross-wing. A moated site lies to the north of the farmhouse.
