Description

Upper House is a 17th-century farmhouse with 19th-century alterations and additions. It is timber-framed with brick infill, some replacement brick walling and refacing, and some sandstone rubble walling, all beneath tiled roofs. The house follows a hall and cross-wing plan. The main part comprises two structural bays, featuring a hearth and a brick ridge stack in the left bay. A two-bay cross-wing is situated at the south gable end, and a single-bay extension projects from the north gable end. The main part features square framing on the first floor and has an irregular pattern of windows, with one casement on the ground floor and three on the first floor. The south gable end of the cross-wing has a ground floor and first floor casement, an attic light, and a planked door with a cambered head leading to the cellar. The north gable end extension contains a ground floor casement between two planked doors, plus two skylights. The cross-wing has a cellar and an attic.
