Description
Haventree is a 15th-century house, originally a cruck hall house, with 17th-century additions and later alterations, and was once converted into three dwellings. The house is timber-framed with rendered or painted brick infill panels, and has tiled roofs. A large, external rubble chimney is situated on the east elevation, featuring three octagonal brick shafts topped with a combined cap. Three pairs of crucks remain, and the interior reveals four bays with large arch-braces visible in the east and west elevations of the south end bay; an arched doorway on the east elevation has been infilled with a 20th-century door and brick surround. A north end bay was likely rebuilt during the 17th century when a two-bay parlour and a single-bay east wing were added. The main part of the house is single storey with an attic, punctuated by four gabled dormers with tile-hung cheeks on both the east and west elevations; the parlour is two storeys with an attic, and the east wing is single storey with an attic. The windows are largely 20th-century casements, and the entrance elevation features six ground-floor casements, four gabled dormers, and a 20th-century timber door in the upper bay of the main part. The interior of the 17th-century additions includes tie-beam trusses; the east wing has an interrupted tie-beam truss where it abuts the main part, along with stop-chamfered main beams. The 15th-century part has been extensively remodelled, including a central hearth with a rebuilt brick stack.
