Description
Kedges Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely dates back to the 17th century, with alterations and extensions made in the mid-19th century. It features a timber-framed structure with rendered infill on a sandstone rubble and brick plinth, and the right side elevation is clad in asbestos tiles. The roof is tiled and includes bands of fishscale tiles, along with pierced, shaped bargeboards at the gable ends. A central ridge stack has been rebuilt and features oversailing cap courses.
The main range consists of three framed bays and a lobby entry, with three single bay gabled rear wings. The building is two storeys high with an attic. The framing includes square and rectangular panels, with five panels running from the sill to the wall-plate. The front elevation has zig-zag bracing at the height of the third rail, while the lower two rails on the right side elevation have been replaced with close-set vertical studding. There are short, straight braces in the lower corners of the third panel from the sill on the side and rear elevations, and queen strut trusses in the gable ends.
The front elevation is symmetrically arranged, with the outer bays featuring nine-pane sash windows on both the ground and first floors, accompanied by side lights and plank weatherings. The central first floor has a nine-pane sash window and a timber-framed porch with pierced, shaped bargeboards and moulded timber uprights. The part-glazed door has long, narrow glazed upper panels with pointed arched heads, and there are attic lights in the gable ends.
Inside, the roof has been raised and altered, featuring single, trenched purlins. The main beams are stop-chamfered, and there are back-to-back fireplaces in the main range. Additionally, there is a mid-19th century single storey kitchen wing on the left side elevation.
