Description
Hill Farmhouse is a farmhouse built in the mid-18th century, with early 19th-century and mid-20th-century additions and alterations. The building is constructed of brick, rendered on the front elevation, and features a partly low-pitched, hipped slate roof with overhanging eaves, along with some tiled sections. There are large brick stacks with oversailing cap courses at the rear of the main building. The farmhouse is two storeys tall and has a cellar, with a dentilled eaves cornice on the rear section.
The original 18th-century structure consists of a three-bay range oriented on an east-west axis, which was enlarged in the early 19th century by a large four-bay addition at the west end, forming the front elevation. The front elevation has four bays, with all windows being glazing bar sashes that have moulded architraves. The ground floor window in the fourth bay features sidelights, and the ground floor windows are equipped with plank weatherings. A flat-roofed brick porch projects from the third bay, which includes an early 19th-century doorcase with pilasters, a flat canopy, and a door with six raised and fielded panels.
At the rear, the earlier part of the farmhouse has doors and windows with cambered heads. The north elevation includes two ground floor casements, two gabled dormers with casements, a planked door, and a multi-paned door. Inside, the older part of the farmhouse features stop-chamfered main beams.
