Description
Greenstreet Farmhouse is a farmhouse that underwent rebuilding in the mid-19th century, likely based on a structure from the 17th century. During the 18th century, it seems to have been a building of considerable status. The farmhouse is constructed of rendered brick and features a concrete tiled roof with a brick stack at the right gable end. It has two storeys and a three-cell range with irregular window arrangements. The front elevation includes three glazing bar sash windows at ground floor level, an off-centre first floor 16-pane sash window, and flanking 20th-century casements. The central entrance features a mid-19th century panelled door with similar reveal panels and a moulded architrave, and there is a wrought iron verandah with a corrugated iron roof that runs the full length of the facade.
Inside, the first floor central front room has a cross-beamed ceiling, with the beams adorned with richly moulded and foliated plasterwork, likely dating from the late 17th century. There is also an early 17th century carved chimney piece with Ionic columns that have exaggerated entasis, flanking an overmantel featuring a blind arcade filled with three relief panels depicting scenes from the Garden of Eden. Additional columns below surround a later Adam style fireplace. The farmhouse includes a two-storey wing at the rear and a single-storey extension at the right gable end. Along the eastern edge of the front garden, there appears to be a former canal from the late 17th or early 18th century.
