Description

Whitehouse Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, with alterations and extensions made in the 19th and mid-20th centuries. It features a timber frame on a brick plinth, with wattle-and-daub and brick infill, as well as brick replacement walling. Some sections are pebble-dashed while others are weatherboarded, and it has tiled roofs with one large and two small brick external stacks on the rear south elevation. The building has an L-shaped plan, consisting of a main range with three framed bays and a single bay wing to the north at the east end. It is two storeys tall, but the framing is not visible from the exterior.

The north elevation faces the farmyard and is likely the original entrance elevation. The main part has 20th-century casement windows on both the ground and first floors, and there is a blocked doorway to the left. The gable end of the north wing also features 20th-century casement windows on both floors. Inside, the roof has double, trenched purlins, but the trusses are not exposed. The framing is visible at first floor level, with large square panels. The main beams are stop-chamfered, and there is a cross-beamed ceiling in the east end of the main range. A 19th-century extension is attached to the west gable end, along with a 19th-century outshut to the south.
