Description
The dovecote at Wichenford Court is a 17th-century structure that was restored in the mid-20th century. It features a timber-framed design with rendered wattle-and-daub infill set on a coursed sandstone rubble plinth, topped with a tiled roof. The dovecote has a square plan and includes four square panels from the sill to the wall-plate. It has slightly curved long braces across the lower outer corners, except for the front elevation, where they are positioned in the upper two rows of panels. The gable end trusses are designed with queen struts connecting the tie-beam to the collar, and V-struts above the collar in the apex. The front elevation faces east and has a small central planked door, with an additional door on the left side of the gable. At the center of the ridge, there is a small glazed lantern with a pyramidal roof and a finial. Inside, the dovecote contains 557 wooden nesting boxes, and the floor is paved with cobblestones. The dovecote was recently presented to the National Trust.
