Description

Cockshoot Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the early 18th century and 19th century, and some 20th-century windows. The building features a combination of timber framing with brick infill and brick construction, topped with concrete tiled roofs. It has an external brick chimney on the left side and a ridge stack on the main section. The layout follows a hall and cross-wing design, with the hall running on an east/west axis and the cross-wing located at the eastern end.

The hall consists of three framed bays, while the cross-wing has two bays and includes two storeys plus an attic and cellar. The west gable end of the hall displays two bands of brickwork, each consisting of two courses. The cross-wing features a dentilled eaves cornice, decorative diaper work in the gable, and bands separating the storeys, with a three-course lower band and two two-course upper bands.

The front elevation shows irregular window placement. The hall range has two ground floor casements, two first floor casements, and a square light, along with a lean-to scullery at the upper end that has a planked door and a casement window. The cross-wing section includes a major and minor gable, with two ground floor casements featuring cambered heads, three first floor casements, a narrow rectangular light, and an attic light. Below the narrow light under the smaller gable is a doorway with a mid-19th century six-panelled door that has raised and fielded panels, similar reveal panels, and a concrete lintel.

The interior of the hall part has a stop-chamfered cross-beamed ceiling in the two lower bays. The roof has not been inspected.
