REDDITCH B HIGH STREET (west side) SP 0061 - 0161 Barn about 50 yards 9/107 north-east of The Old House

GV II

Barn, now store. Early C19. Brick, plain tiled roof with parapets at gable ends. Four bays aligned north/south; wagon bay is situated second bay from north end and has opposed cart entries with cambered heads and double doors. Diaper ventilation patterns and dentilled eaves cornice. Small archway with cambered head and inserted C20 garage door in west elevation of south bay; above the archway is a lunette window. At the south gable end is a large pointed-arched blind opening with Y-tracery and ten rows of brick alighting ledges, eight of which have rows of pigeon holes set behind them; to the right is a doorway with a cambered head. interior: intermediate king-post roof trusses. South bay is floored. There is a former shelter shed adjoining the west side of the north bay; this has been converted to garages and is not of special architectural interest. This large and prominent barn with its unusual south gable end detail is situated close to the stable and walled garden (qv) to the rear of The Old House (qv). Included for group value.
