Description

This is a barn, now used as a store, located about 50 yards northeast of The Old House. It was built in the early 19th century and is constructed of brick with a plain tiled roof featuring parapets at the gable ends. The barn has four bays that run north to south, with the wagon bay located in the second bay from the north end. This wagon bay has opposing cart entries with cambered heads and double doors. The exterior displays diaper ventilation patterns and a dentilled eaves cornice.

On the west elevation of the south bay, there is a small archway with a cambered head that has a 20th-century garage door inserted. Above this archway is a lunette window. The south gable end features a large pointed-arched blind opening with Y-tracery and ten rows of brick alighting ledges, eight of which contain rows of pigeon holes. To the right of this opening is a doorway with a cambered head. Inside, the barn has intermediate king-post roof trusses, and the south bay is floored.

There is a former shelter shed attached to the west side of the north bay, which has been converted into garages and is not of special architectural interest. This large and prominent barn, notable for its unusual detail on the south gable end, is situated near the stable and walled garden behind The Old House, contributing to its group value.
