Description
This is a detached bakehouse with a granary, stable, and hop kiln located at Rowe Farmhouse. The bakehouse dates from the late 17th century and underwent alterations in the mid-18th century and mid-19th century when the granary and stables were added. The hop kiln was constructed in the late 19th century. The building is made of red brick, with the bakehouse gable end featuring small, handmade bricks, and it has tiled roofs, while the hop kiln has a slate roof and cowl.
The structure is two storeys tall and has a dentilled eaves cornice on the stable and granary. The stable, which has a granary above it, consists of three bays and displays irregular fenestration. The south elevation features two casement windows on each floor, with cambered heads on the ground floor, along with a door that also has a cambered head. The bakehouse, located at the east end, is slightly lower in height and has a large external chimney at its gable end, which includes tiled offsets and a large oven. An exposed queen strut truss can be seen in the gable. There is a planked door and a casement window on the south elevation, and a heated chamber is situated above the bakehouse. The square-based hop kiln is attached to the stable and granary on the north side.
