Description

Hollingshead Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely dates from the 17th century, with some alterations made in the 19th century. The building features a combination of brick and coursed sandstone rubble, with some timber-framing visible on the exterior. It has tiled roofs and an external sandstone stack located on the right side and rear, which has paired brick shafts with a cogged brickwork course at the base and projecting vertical header bands on each shaft face. The farmhouse has a hall and cross-wing type plan and is two storeys high with an attic.

The front elevation shows that the main part is made of sandstone up to just below the eaves level, with irregular fenestration. There is a ground floor casement window with a cambered head and two 20th-century casement windows at the eaves level. A planked door is located next to the cross-wing, which has a tiled porch supported by timber uprights set across the angle. The gable end of the cross-wing is constructed of 19th-century brickwork and features a ground floor casement window with a cambered head and an attic light. In the angle between the main part and the cross-wing, there are ground and first floor casement windows, both with cambered heads. The rear cross-wing displays a queen strut truss with a double collar, and some timber framing is visible on the right side elevation. The interior has not been inspected, and there are 19th-century outshuts at the rear.
