Description
Hill Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely dates back to the early 17th century, with alterations and extensions made in the 19th century. The building features a timber-framed structure with painted brick infill, brick replacement walling, and some sandstone rubble walling at the rear. The front elevation is pebbledashed, and the roofs are tiled with decorative ridge tiles. An external sandstone ashlar chimney with tiled offsets and a rebuilt stack is located on the left side elevation, along with a brick stack on the side of the main ridge and external brick stacks at the rear.
The farmhouse has a hall and cross-wing type plan, with a former cross-passage. The main range consists of three framed bays, while the cross-wing has two framed bays. The framing is exposed at the rear of the cross-wing, featuring large square panels and straight braces in the top corner panels. The building is two storeys high, with an attic and cellar.
The front elevation includes scalloped bargeboards and eaves detail. The main range has a ground floor casement window, a four-pane sash window, a pointed arched window, three first floor casements, and a lean-to porch on the left that is enclosed by 20th-century glazed double doors and a panelled side door. The cross-wing features a bay window with plain sashes, a first floor casement, and an attic light with a pointed arch. There are also 19th-century outshuts at the rear.
