Description

Ivy House Farm is a farmhouse, now a house, dating back to the 17th century, with extensions added in the 19th century. It is timber-framed with a mix of rendered and painted brick infill, some replacement brick walling and refacing, and pebbledashing to the front left elevation. The roof is tiled and hipped, with external brick stacks to the side elevations; the right-side stack includes sandstone ashlar quoins, and the rear stack is now partially enclosed by later extensions.

The house is arranged in an H-shape, with a central two-bay range featuring a through-passage on the left side, and flanking two-bay cross-wings. It has two storeys, an attic, and a cellar. The timber framing is exposed in the right cross-wing, showcasing queen strut trusses with irregularly-sized square panels, mostly four from sill to wall-plate.

The front elevation features a ground floor casement with a cambered head in the central range, alongside two first floor casements. A square porch with a flat roof behind a parapet is located on the left side, and contains a planked door with a cambered head and a side light. The gable ends of the cross-wings incorporate ground and first floor casements.

Inside, the central range has an intermediate raking strut truss, while the cross-wings feature intermediate interrupted queen strut trusses. The right wing also has straight wind-braces, and all ranges have single, trenched purlins. 19th-century extensions are located at the rear of the property.
