Description

Elm Cottages is a pair of estate cottages, now functioning as a house, built in the mid-19th century and altered and extended in the mid-20th century. The structure is made of brick with stone dressings and features a tiled roof that is banded with fishscale tiles. It has chamfered bargeboards, moulded finials, decorative ridge tiles, and a central brick ridge stack with oversailing cap courses. The building is two storeys high, and at the first-floor level, there is a course of alternate blue and red headers between two courses of blue bricks.

The symmetrical plan of the rear main range runs parallel to the road and has two gabled single-celled wings that project from the center. Throughout the building, there are metal lattice-work casements. On the front elevation, the wing gable ends feature a ground and first-floor window along with a blind loophole in the gable. The main range on the left and right has a pointed arched doorway and a first-floor window, with a planked door on the left side. There is a 20th-century timber-framed, gabled porch on the right side that is parallel to the main ridge, matching the tiles and bargeboards, and it has a part-glazed door. The interior has not been inspected. There is also a 20th-century single-storey extension to the rear right. Elm Cottages was formerly part of the Dudley estate.
