Description
Holt Fleet Bridge is a bridge built in 1828 by Thomas Telford, which was widened in 1928. It is constructed from coursed sandstone rubble, sandstone ashlar, concrete, and cast iron. The bridge features a single span supported by a small cross framework, with a larger cross framework in the spandrels. The sandstone abutments have three battered buttresses on each side, with flood archways between them. Each buttress has a square sectioned concrete pier above, topped with ridged capping. The abutments end in angled walls that sweep down and out from the roadway, terminating at square piers with pyramidal capping. Cast iron railings with dog rails extend the full length of the bridge, interrupted by concrete piers at both ends.
