Barn, Granary And Hop Kiln About 35 Yards East Of Peghouse Farmhouse

The barn, granary, and hop kiln located about 35 yards east of Peghouse Farmhouse date from the mid-19th century. Constructed of brick, they feature a dentilled eaves cornice and tiled roofs. The barn consists of three bays, with a central wagon bay that has square-headed cart entries. The west elevation displays diaper ventilation patterns, while the east elevation has alternating header ventilation courses. There is a planked door and an attic light in the north gable end.

Inside, the roof is supported by two intermediate raking strut trusses and single, trenched purlins. The granary, which adjoins the south gable end of the barn, has two bays and features a timber-framed upper floor with square panels and brick infill. The west elevation has a planked door, and the east elevation is mostly open at ground floor level, likely for its original use as a cart shed. The interior roof has a central king post truss and single, trenched purlins, with a staircase at the south end.

The hop kiln is attached to the south-east corner of the granary and is circular with a conical roof and vent, featuring a planked door on the south-east side. The interior is floored, with a door leading to the granary on the north-west side.
