Description
Wood Farm Cottage is a former cruck hall house, possibly dating from the 16th century, which has been heavily altered in the 20th century. It features a timber frame with rendered infill and a sandstone plinth, topped by a half-hipped tiled roof. The building has a straight range of four framed bays, with an end stack and an external stack located at the rear to the right of the center bay.
A porch with a garage extension, which was formerly a cowshed, projects forward from the center of the entrance elevation. The cottage is single storey with an attic and has irregular fenestration, including 20th-century glazing bar casements throughout. There is one half-dormer on the left side and three additional dormers on the right side of a 20th-century glazed door.
The framing has been altered and renewed, but remnants of cruck blades are still visible in the gable ends. The framing is irregular, consisting of two and three panels from the sill to the wall-plate. Evidence of a former through passage is suggested by traces of ogee doorheads to the left of the current entrance in the main elevation and in the opposing framing at the rear.
