Description
Rooftree Cottage is a cottage likely dating from the 16th century, with alterations and extensions in the 19th century. It is a cruck-framed building with rendered infill panels and a thatched roof, featuring a brick ridge and lateral stacks. Originally a two-bay cottage with a lobby entry plan, it was later extended by one bay. The building is one storey and has an attic. The side facing the road has a blocked door opening set higher than the present road level, along with one-, two-, and three-light casement windows. Inside, three full crucks are visible, one being exposed in the left end elevation facing Main Street, showing two tiers of collars and a saddle. The roof has one tier of purlins. A large brick stack has been inserted, incorporating an original open hearth, and a smoke hood from the earlier open hearth remains on the upper floor.
