Description
The Old Rectory is a former rectory located on Church Lane in Hoby, dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century, with alterations and extensions made in the late 18th century and mid-19th century. The building is constructed of red brick in an irregular bond and features a hipped roof made of Swithland slate, along with brick internal stacks. It has a double-depth plan and is two stories high with a six-window range. The central entrance is a 20th-century six-panel door surrounded by a pedimented moulded wood frame. The ground and first floors have wood mullion and transom windows with rendered heads. The building includes a renaming plinth, a storey band, moulded wood eaves, and a central gabled dormer. To the right, there is a 19th-century gabled two-storey extension. The rear elevation features shallow two-storey wings on either side of the center, each with two windows and twelve-pane sash windows, except for a later canted bay window on the left wing. Both wings have pediments, and there is a large central first-floor window with a round-arched head that lights the staircase. The interior is noted for its open-well staircase, which has slender twisted column-on-vase balusters.
