Description
The Old Rectory is a former parsonage house built in the early 18th century, with alterations and additions made in the mid-19th century. It is constructed of red brick, with the east front rendered, and features a tiled hipped roof, while the later north elevation has a slate roof. Originally designed in an L-plan, the building has been altered by a later addition to the north and another to the west, resulting in a broadly rectangular plan with a small central courtyard and a central entrance on the north elevation.
The structure has three stacks: one axial stack to the right of center, one end stack on the south range, and another end stack on the east range. It is two storeys high and includes a cellar, with a dentilled eaves cornice.
On the east elevation, there are three windows on the upper floor and one window on the ground floor, featuring glazing bar sashes with cambered heads. The ground floor has tripartite windows flanking the central doorway, which includes a partly glazed door with an overlight featuring vertical glazing bars and a canopy. To the north, there is a mid-19th century bay that has early 18th century windows with glazing bar sashes and segmental heads that have been resited. The north elevation has 20th-century windows and re-used early 19th-century glazing bar sash windows, along with a plain Doric portico leading to the doorway, which features a six-panelled door.
