Description
East Grove Cottage is a house dating from the 17th century that has been altered. It features a timber-framed structure with sections of painted brick and lath-and-plaster infill, as well as brick refacing on the rear and part of the north gable. The cottage has tiled roofs and a sandstone base for the stack. The main hall consists of three framed bays aligned east-west, with a projecting cross-wing of two framed bays at the east end. The main stack is located at the junction with the wing, and the building has a contracted lobby entry plan. It is a single storey with an attic throughout.
The main elevation has irregular fenestration, including one gabled dormer with a two-light window towards the centre of the hall range, and three two-light casements on the ground floor to the right of the doorway, which features a ledged door. The gable end of the cross-wing to the left has one two-light casement and two casements on the ground floor, one of which has a cambered head. The stack has three diagonal plan brick shafts. Inside, there is a large altered fireplace.
